Friendly Fifties

Half a century and counting, each one of us, give or take a few

The years became, but a number, when creating memories anew!

The sparkling eyes behind the inevitable specs still twinkled,

The sprightly legs, despite the middle age spread, still pirouetted!

The sharpest brains under the baldness, still magic, they created,

The “Hi!s”  and “Hellos”, despite the years, still reverberated!

**

The friendly banter, despite the distances, was still oh-so-warm,

The nostalgic trips down memory lane, despite  the years, oh such a balm!

**

The night was young, and so were we, as our young ‘uns discovered,

Nimble dancers and not so nimble ones were some talents uncovered!

**

The night went on and soon,  the good stuff was flowing

The Fifties became The twenties and yeah, so was the swaying!

**

The amazing evening and a good night’s sleep later,

It was time for games and fun, a friendly reminder,

Of the days spent in healthy competition banter and lots of cheers,

The screaming n booing n  laughter… were we doctors or teenagers!

**

Alas!  It was all over too soon, the preparation and excitement

Of meeting old friends and reviving memories of fun n merriment! 

As fresh promises of keeping in touch,  Good Byes n Au Revoirs rent the  air,

The heady whiff of new memories soaked in nostalgia drew us ever near!
