Friendship

Whatta Daily Prompt : Friend

Who do I call a friend? What is friendship? Just like love, it is undefined and possibly indefinable, too. Its defined by the heart . Of each one of us.

From birth to death , one cannot live without friends. Every relationship, to me, starts with friendship. From a mother to a child. From a lover to a husband. From sisters to friends – friends at school, college and  the school of life itself !

The warmth and comfort of a friends presence is like no other, be it in your mother’s hand on your forehead or your friend tensely holding your own hand as she waits for news about her own mother.

If your partner is also your best friend, it’s a combo that is pure bliss. However, it does not mean  that your best friend should always be your partner or vice versa. It may be anyone in fact, your sibling, your childhood bestie or even maybe your childhood sweetheart!! Who knows!

Having said that , I’m moving on to what a friend is to me. And will always be.

Someone who knows your oddities, yet thinks you’re splendid!

Someone who’s proud of having you by his / her side! And makes no bones about it.

Someone you can wake up at 2 in the morning and get a “Hey, all well?” Which makes the problem you called about seem insignificant.

Someone in whom you can confide your wildest dreams and weakest moments, yet not be judged. Ever.

Someone who never thinks twice about coming over, no matter what the distance.

Someone who lets the years as well as troubles  fall away with just a hug.

Someone with whom you can have giggling fit as well as a crying spell  and feel perfect.

A hundred clichés have been written about friends and friendships – with a true friend, each one seems to hold good!

Yes, there is a flip side too – the deeper the friendship, the bigger the fights, the sharper the hurt and greater the pain of losing one.

As in all deep relationships, I genuinely feel that there’s always rough with the smooth. In friendships too. One becomes a tad vulnerable, a tad sensitive and maybe a tad selfish too. And that’s OK. That’s just being human.

A friend to me is someone who makes me comfortable with who I am.

Whoever I am. Whenever. Wherever.

Everyone cannot always find a friend like that.

If you have found one, hold on tight. It’s not everyday you find such treasures. Of life.

And to all those who have not yet  found one, Be one. It’s just as fulfilling.

Happy friendships to all of you . Today , tomorrow, Forever.

Such moving words! I love this deeply poignant image:
“The warmth and comfort of a friends presence is like no other, be it in your mother’s hand on your forehead or your friend tensely holding your own hand as she waits for news about her own mother. “

Loved this one. You have so many adoring friends because you are a true friend to everybody. They find comfort in you … and the ralationship you share with each of them. Lucky to be one amongst the many.

Love the thoughts expressed in your blogpost, especially this: “And to all those who have not yet found one, Be one. It’s just as fulfilling.”
