Deja Vu

You step into an acquaintance’s house for the first time, and discover that everything — from the furniture, to the books, to the art on the wall — is identical to your home. What happens next?

I stepped on to the porch to ring the bell but saw that the door was open. As I entered, I saw the sofa in the same spot as it was in my house. Why, even the color was the same!

I sat down gingerly, waiting for the lady of the house, who I had come to meet, to make an appearance.It was late. But this had to be discussed and I had decided to visit her even at this late hour on my way home.

My eyes wandered over the walls. The painting on the opposite wall looked very familiar. It was a scene depicting the war in Mahabharat the Indian epic. I had a similar one too. The curtains were the same shade as the ones I had in my drawing room. Even the crystal piece on the center table appeared very familiar. What was Happening? It was uncanny.

Minutes passed. There was no one in the drawing room. I went out and rang the bell. Perhaps no one knew I was there. 

Lo n behold!!! My housekeeper came from the kitchen. “Yes, Mam? ” “What are you doing here?” I asked. “Why, Mam? Have  you given me a day off?” She looked as perplexed as I was feeling.

 Light dawned . I suddenly realised why everything was so familiar – I was in my own house.

It was 31 Dec 2020 and I had had one too many!!!! Happy New Year!!
