Mortal Human

Finite Creatures: At what age did you realize you were not immortal? How did you react to that discovery?

immortality

I think I always knew that we are all mortal. I am not afraid of death per se. I know that life as we know and live it will cease one day. As a doctor I also know the wear and tear that we inflict on our bodies and minds as well.

Having said that, I am afraid to just exist and stop living. To me, mortality is to stop living, stop feeling, losing intensity, losing the passion for living….

A life bereft of zest or zing or a spark is no life to me. The day that spark,  that interest dies, I die. And I am scared of living that way.

A life where one is not wanted or needed or loved is something akin to death itself. Having no one and nothing to look forward to make us an empty shell. I feel we should always reinvent ourselves to find purpose in something we love or love to do passionately.

Why should one aspire to be immortal? I want to live life every moment….till there is no life.

I do not yet believe in reincarnation or afterlife. I am a practising Hindu and our religion believes in it but I have yet to understand the how and why of the soul and rebirths and avatars. Perhaps someday I will…

To be mortal is to be human. I aspire to being a good human. I do not aspire to immortality. That is for the angels and I am no angel.

I am just me…. a mortal human. Cheers to that!

Thank you so very much for the kind nomination. I was truly touched by your kindness. However, I have already received this award, and last year I decided that the encouragement and appreciation that comes with any away would probably be a better honor for beginning bloggers. So please share this lovely award with another blogger, but also know how much I appreciate your kindness.

I feel if everyone could think this way, the world would be so peaceful. No waging wars in the name of religion, no family disputes in the name of property or wealth, and no internal fights of not having enough.

You are indeed a good human being who lives life to the fullest and gives expansively to others. That in itself will make you immortal for everyone who comes across you. Loved this piece.
